What is Apple CarPlay? | Luther Automotive Group

There’s been a lot of talk in the automotive world about Apple CarPlay. But, what is it and how can you get it?

Because we want to keep you in the loop on the latest car technology, we’ve put together a blog on what you should know about Apple CarPlay. Keep reading for more information.

What is it? Apple CarPlay is an improved way to get you even closer to your iPhone apps by creating a seamless integration between the phone and the car’s infotainment touchscreen.

What does this mean for you? You can now access your smartphone without taking your eyes off the road. Plus, it’s easier to use your car’s infotainment system since you already know how to use your smartphone. The interface is almost exactly the same.

Tap and swipe and you’ll have quick access to apps like Siri, Maps and ITunes Radio, as well as calls, music and messaging.

What cars have Apple CarPlay? Automakers that have introduced the technology are BMW, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Land Rover, Kia, Subaru, Toyota, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, and Nissan. See each model here.

Which phones are compatible? You can use all iPhones with lightning connectors (iPhone 6, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C). It functionality works on phones with iOS 7 or newer.

To access your phone through your vehicle, connect the phone through the Lightning Connector, which pulls data from your phone while also charging it.
