First Years Sales Associate in Best of the Best

Benjamin Wollin, Sales Associate at the Used Car Company, made Luther’s Sales Best of the Best list for 2023 in his first full year of selling cars. Wollin started at the Used Car Company in October 2022 after working at a cheese factory in Le Sueur and as a District Manager for Papa Murphys. His great uncle continually told him to try sales, and it wasn’t until he passed that Wollin decided to give it a shot. 

“I started off blind, I had no training. It was tough, but it was a learning opportunity,” said Wollin. “I would watch my fellow salespeople like a hawk. I just sat and stared at people, watching everything. I figured out what worked, and what didn’t. The biggest thing was experience, getting in front of as many people as I could.”

After some management turnover and Jamison Rohrbeck, Director of Used Car Operations, joined, Wollin started to get better and better. “We just asked him to trust us, we told him we’re going to build processes that would help,” said Rohrbeck. “We didn’t ask him to just sell more cars, we told him we are going to teach you how to sell cars and how to move the guests through the process.” Rohrbeck continued pushing Wollin to get 15 car deals, then 20, and so on. Eventually, they realized he wasn’t far out of making the Best of the Best and that became Wollin’s new goal.

“The number one thing is making the guest’s time a priority. People really appreciate that. I always make sure I have the keys to a car before telling them I do and find other options just in case something changes,” Wollin added. “Giving them the time of day and being patient can make a difference.” 

“Ben’s story should tell every salesperson that the sky is the limit, and their future is up to them. Are they willing to come to work with a great attitude, give maximum effort and be willing to be mentored, taught, and trained?” Joe Ruhland, General Sales Manager, asked. “Then there’s no limit to what they can accomplish, we’re just limited by what’s in our heads.”
